“If we didn’t have NEWGEN,” says Hilary Alexander, “where would our designers be?” It’s a good question to ask this season, which marks the 10th anniversary of Topshop’s involvement with the initiative – accompanied by the brand’s exclusive range of t-shirts designed by past recipients.

It’s quite a roll-call of talent, with current NEWGEN rising stars Simone Rocha and Thomas Tait following in the footsteps of such alumni as Christopher Kane, Michael van der Ham, Richard Nicoll and Jonathan Saunders.

“It serves to remind you what a cool bunch they have always been,” says The Telegraph’s Fashion Editor Lisa Armstrong. “Christopher Kane stands out.” Murray Healy, Senior Editor of Love, points to Gareth Pugh’s S/S 07 collection, when
“he took it up a level. That was nice to see”, while Stella’s Fashion Director Charlie Harrington openly admits to an “obsession” with Nicoll. “It’s been great to watch him grow,” she says.

And with a further 10 years’ sponsorship coming from Topshop – news that BFC CEO Caroline Rush called “incredible” – we can also look forward to another decade of fabulous frower nosh!
