Terry Barber, M.A.C’s Director of Make-up Artistry shares with us the look he created at J J S Lee.
“I was at an Erin O’Connor party last night, so coming into Somerset House early morning was a little testing, but there is a complete sense of calm backstage, which actually comes from being tired! This season we had a definite idea of what we wanted to create, which is great! We didn’t want anything too tricky and to stick to a concept of having all the models look the same; kind of like mannequins which I think looks beautiful! This season, we decided to go for a cold twist on the 50’s.
The collection was monochrome, so we wanted to play with black, whites and lilacs. The structure of the face is very 50′s but I wanted to add a modern twist to the look, with negative colours. We used M.A.C Face & Body all over with the Mineralize powder over the top. The powder foundation gives iridescence to the skin. We then used the M.A.C Cream Colour Base to add a tad of freshness and highlight.
We gave the girls a flicked-out liner but using white! I used the M.A.C Chromoline liner in white. This gave the girls a Nordic look. Although this season mascara wasn’t used on a lot of the shows, but I felt we had to apply mascara to this look, otherwise with the white liner this could have felt quite alien. Instead, we wanted to create something that was still very beautiful. We then applied a hazy lilac on to the lips and powdered this down, to make the lips look very matte. The white, black and lilac colours look beautiful together and really showed off the monochrome theme to the collection.”
