“There was everything from false limbs, silicone implants and suitcases filled with cash.” Anya Hindmarch is talking about the exhibition of lost and unclaimed belongings that inspired her S/S 12 collection. “But it was a battered old doctor’s bag that led to the collection’s hero piece, The Bruton.”

Fittingly, it is behind the doors of the Strand’s atmospheric abandoned tube station that we found the S/S 12 collection, Lost & Found. Handbags and accessories appeared like hidden treasure, sitting on colour-blocked piles of old paraphernalia – Family Circle biscuit boxes, Colman’s Mustard tins and Lyle’s Golden Syrup packaging complement pillar-box red studded purses, aqua green shoulder bags and black patent leather totes.

Meanwhile, a flower stall displayed box clutches with engraved messages (in-store from November), a newspaper kiosk offered the new mini Gracie and official Underground staff are around to ensure all is in order.

“I’m obsessed with London’s hidden history and I wanted to recreate that here – it’s the perfect venue,” said Hindmarch. Just the ticket.
